Surprise table tennis wins
Dallington and Selwyn both r scored upset wins at the ex--1 pense of Riccarton I and Riccarton 11, respectively, in the I twelfth round of the A grade j inter-club -table tennis competit tion last evening. > Dallington had beaten Riccarl ton I earlier in the season, but I the latter side was expected to I make amends on this occasion. T. Edwards recorded three . singles victories, and for the , second time defeated the third . ranked Canterbury player, J. ' Armstrong. Edwards was ably assisted by his team-mates, D. J. ■ Kalin and R. G. Hart, in lead--1 ihg his side to an 8-4 win. Selwyn’s winning margin was a tot closer. The match scores were level at six-all, Selwyn winning 16-15 on a count-back of games. V. N. Brightwell, maintaining his superb form of recent weeks, won all his singles and extended his sequence to 19 successive victories. The return of the former Canterbury representative, W. T. Scott, who had retired at the start of the season, strengthened ’ the Selwyn team. Although Scott did not win -a singles, the «ame he took from both R. W. tercer and A. Alabaster played Jan important part in the final result. The Avbnside junior, M. W. 1 Burrowes, celebrated Ms selection in the South Island men’s team With three singles wins - against Wallabies.
