Rumanian call at Geneva
(N .Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) GENEVA, August 4. Rumania today urged that the Balkans be transformed into an area free from nuclear weapons and foreign bases. The Rumanian Ambassador (Mr lon Datcou) told the Geneva Disarmament Conference of 25 nations that the Balkans should be made “a zone of peace and co-opera-tion in which the peoples of the area can work towards unity.” Mr Datcou reiterated Rumania’s opposition to military manoeuvres by the armed forces of one country on the territory of another. He said that Rumania was firmly in favour of dismantling military bases on foreign territory, the withdrawal of foreign troops to their own territory, the suppression of military blocs, the renunciation of manoeuvres on foreign territory and the abstention by all countries from demonstrations of force.
