Items of increase

A summary of costs for the amended plans for the Centennial Pool shows the previous net estimate at $1,439326.

This is based on the volume of building and covers the same items as an earlier estimate, but includes modifications suggested by the New Zealand Institute of Architects and those incorporated by City Council staff after a visit to swimming pools in Aus-, tralia.

Added to this is $92,000, made up of $22,000 for land purchase, said to be a minimum, $25,000 for fire protection—“something you wouldn’t think is necessary in a swimming pool,” the engineer commented—and alternative sacking of $45,000.

The costs then go up by another $124,000. Timing gear is estimated at $19,500. Earlier it had been though it could be borrowed for the Games. A glazed screen on the outside of the sunbathing balcony is estimated to cost another $lO,OOO over the cost of an original balustrade.

Other items, because they are subject to tender, were not made available by the council for publication. In tile original estimate an allowance of $202,000 was made for increased costs; but on the situation today the council has added another $lOO,OOO to this item.
