Lectures about organ music
Six lecture-recitals about the organ as an instrument whose colours are tied to those of the peoples who have made and played it, are to be given next month for the W.E.A. by Mr D. J. Martin.
“The organ and its music have had a long and colourful history,” said Mr Martin. “People have been playing organs since the time of the Roman Empire. A lot of passionate, dramatic and beautiful music has been written for it, music reflecting such societies as Renaissance Venice, Holland at the time of Rembrandt and Rubens, or post-war Europe,” said Mr Martin.
“I hope to bring out something in the colour in the organ, in its music and in the different societies.” The six lecture-recitals will start on Monday, August 2,
at the Durham Street Methodist church.
