No limit on jackpot
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 18. "The Waikato district racing clubs’ jackpot, which at present stands at $83,318.40, will continue on its original lines and the pool will not be frozen when it exceeds $lOO,OOO. The secretary of the Waikato Racing Club (Mr R. F. MacDonald) said today that because of the possibility of a legal complication the freeze ruling would not be implemented. He added, however, that a jackpot rule allowed the district committee to terminate the pool whenever it chose. The jackpot will be at stake at the Waikato meeting on Wednesday. If the pool is not struck, 20 per cent of the amount bet on the day will be won by the entry naming the most winners of the six races.
The jackpot was not struck at the Matamata meeting yesterday. However, there were 13 winning tickets in the Wellington Racing Club’s jackpot yesterday and they will share a pool of $50,708.50.
