COMBINED SPORTS
Kaiapoi club proposed
A public meeting will soon be called in Kaiapoi to find how much support there is for the formation of a combined sports club, with particular interests in boxing, wrestling, and judo. A planning group comprising Messrs A. Warnock, R. Hampton, W. Parlane, and E. Sincock has been studying the matter, and Mr Warnock said it was hoped to include other activities as finance and facilities became available. •
The group has approached church, local body, education, and police representatives, and all have shown interest in the project. The Kaiapoi Rugby league club has offered to provide its hall at a reduced rental, and inquiries are being made to see if the community centre and other halls would be available.
A number of other sports organisations have also been approached, including the Canterbury Amateur Boxing Association, which has been asked if it would help with equipment. The Kaiapoi Jaycee chapter has delegated a member to work on the project, and it has offered $2O as a start to fund-raising. If 10 other clubs, organisations, or business firms will each donate $3O or more the chapter will increase its contribuItion to $6O.
