LICENSING OPPOSED
WELLINGTON, July 15.
The Under-Secretary for Education (Mr Gair) today emphasised that there was no case for the sort of regularisation and licensing of newspaper ownership proposed in the Newspaper Ownership Bill, debated in Parliament last night. He had been incorrectly reported by the Press Association as saying that while there was a case for regularisation and licensing of the press, he would prefer this to develop from within the press itself. What, in fact, he had said, was that there was a case not for the. sort of regularisation and licensing proposed in the bill, but for something that could be developed from within the ranks of the press itself, such as a press council to provide, a measure of self-discipline.
Dr B. C. Broom, paediatric registrar to the North Canterbury Hospital Board, has been awarded a training fellowship by* the Medical Research Council. He will do research in experimental immunology at the Otago Medical School and will later further his studies in Britain. ■■■■ll
