Ploughing venue for 1972 decided
(trom Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, July 15. The venue for the 1972 national ploughing championships will be Rakaia, on the property of Mr W. A. Hood, of Chertsey. This was decided at the annual meeting of the Ploughing Association in Timaru this evening.
The allocation of qualifying events for 1972 will be the same as for this year: six in the North Island and 16 in the South Island.
The financial position of the association was fairly sound, a small profit having been made, said the retiring president (Mr W. D. Buick) of Masterton.
The year had seen a start in the relieving of the sponsors—the Atlantic Union Oil Company (N.Z.), Ltd—of some of the Silver Plough promotion costs, but in accepting this challenge, the affiliated associations and the national organisation would be stronger, Mr Buick said. The financial situation at present was such as to preclude sending two ploughmen to the world finals, said Mr Buick. Member associations will be approached in order to devise ways of sending a second ploughman to global contests. Mr R. A. Triggs, of Wellington, was made an honorary life member. Mr Triggs, who retired this year, filled the secretaryship for seven years. Officers were elected as fol-
lows: President, Mr L. D. Blair (Outram); immediate past president, Mr Buick; senior vice-president, Mr F. C. King (Papakura);' executive, Messrs H. A. Magson (Rakaia), T. F. Carter (Greenpark), G. L. A. Donald (Takapauna), E. A. E. Fairhall (Blenheim), G. C. Hurst (Oamaru), 1 W. G. Miller (Gore), J. R. Murray (Hamilton), and J. S. Marshall Jun (Invercargill); secretary, Mr G. McPherson (Christchurch).
