LONDON, June 21
The British actress, Vanessa Redgrave, who is 34, has been refused visas to the United States three times within the past nine months because of her political activities.
Miss Redgrave, who is known internationally for her opposition to the Vietnam war, confirmed today that an application for a tourist’s visa she made in April had been turned down by the United States Embassy in London. She said in an interview: “If you want any comment on this, you’d better ask the American Embassy. My publishers in New York tell me it is because of my political activities. I’ve already made three applications for tourist visas—one this year and two last autumn. When I want to go to America again. I’ll make another.”
The daughter of the actor, Sir Michael Redgrave, Miss Redgrave was one of the leaders of a London rally against the Vietnam war in 1968 which ended in rioting outside the United States Embassy. Forty-five demonstrators and 117 policemen were injured. She has also made speeches opposing the war to American servicemen in. Britain, and is well-known for her Left-wing views.
