Goodland dies

The successful sire, Goodland, collapsed and died on the ship bringing him back from Sydney to New Zealand. News of the 14-year-old stallion’s death was received from Auckland yesterday by his Oxford owner, Mr I. Langford.

Goodland was coming home after a term of stud duty in Australia. For the last two years he had stood on the property of the Sydney trainer, W. Picken, who recently disposed of all his stud stock.

Goodland sired two of the winners at Addington Raceway on Saturday night. They were the two-year-old trotter, Pakeha Queen, and Good Admiral. Other top performers among his stock in New Zealand included Westland King. Markalan, Really Good and Tullamore Dew. Goodland, which was bred in the United States, was to have stood at Mr P. K. Ryder’s Inchbonnie Stud, at Yaldhurst, next season.
