Polynesians to have places held
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, June 21. Up to three preferential places for suitably qualified Polynesian students who are New Zealand citizens will be provided at the Auckland University School of Medicine. This decision has been made on the recommendation of the faculty of medicine. When the matter came before the university council today, the ViceChancellor (Dr C. J. Maiden) said he understood that the Otago School of Medicine had reserved two places for Polynesians for many years. Auckland has an intake of about 60 students a year. In future, application forms wili include the question: “Do you wish to claim preferential consideration as a Polynesian who is a New Zealand citizen?”
