Mare sold
(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY. A top New Zealand-bred mare, Mona’s Joy, has been bought by the American millionaire, Mr Nelson Bunker Hunt, and will not race In Sydney again. The Sydney trainer. B. Guy, whose wife owned the slx-year-old, completed negotiations for the sale this week.
The purchase price was not disclosed, but It is bellved to be about $13,000, the figure at which Mona’s Joy was passed In when auctioned In Sydney in April. Mona’s ‘ Joy will be shipped back to New Zealand and mated with Mr Hunt’s stallion, Pretendre. Mona’s Joy, by Gold Sovereign out of Sinaloa, has been a real money spinner for the Guys and her previous Australian owners. She won 13 races and was In the money 42 times for total stake earnings of $36,750.
