Cyclist hurt

A severe knee injury suffered in a car accident last Wednesday may put an abrupt end to the career of a promising young trade cyclist from Westport, J. A. Drummond.

Drummond, aged 18, was in a car travelling to the Lions and combined West Coast-Buller Rugby match at Greymouth when the accident occurred. At the 1970 New Zealand championships Drummond won the junior pursuit title, and be is the present holder of the New Zealand junior record for the 4000 metres pursuit. After a hard season in 1970 he had a lay-off last year and his coach, Mr H. I.itoff, of Christchurch, who trains Drummond by letter, said he had just begun training for the coming track season, but the injury could prevent his career in cycling going any further.
