CENTENARY OF CHURCH
Christmas, 1972, will mark the centenary of the first service held in St Augustine’s Church, Waimate. Special services and various functions will be held to mark the occasion, but in the meantime a historical j committee is preparing a history of the church and the parish. The committee would like to get in touch with former parishioners who could supply anecdotes or reminiscences for the history and would like also to borrow old photographs of interest.
In particular, information is sought about the building of the old "Maori Church” at Point Bush in 1864.
Any person who could assist the committee should contact its secretary, Mrs J. H. Saville, 5 Regent Street, Waimate.
