FUNDS FOR REFUGEES
$44 raised by children
A copper trail was laid by 140 pupils of St Theresa’s Primary School after school hours yesterday, realising $44 towards the relief of Pakistan refugees in India. The suggestion was put to the school by the church’s youth club, which promised to match what was raised with a $ for $ subsidy. Two of the young men who organised the copper trail, Messrs B. Callaghan and L. Robinson, said the children’s response had been “tremendous,” and “a considerable surprise.” The club will place tomorrow a collection box outside St Theresa’s Church for parents to contribute to. Here again, the amount raised, to a maximum of $lOO, will be subsidised $ for $■ Next week-end the youth club will present a cheque for the total amount raised to the Catholic Overseas Aid Committee, for distribution to the Pakistan refugee committee.
Aid to refugees.—A food auction held at the Bishopdale Shopping Centre last evening raised $ll6 for the relief of Pakistani refugees. The auction was organised by the Wairakei Christian Family Movement and held in conjunction with the C.0.R.5.0. appeal.
