(N Z.F A.-Reuter —Copyright)
ASCOT, June 16.
High boots squelched through the mud, widebrimmed hats fluttered in the chill wind, and trouser suits ousted hot pants in the fashion stakes at Ascot yesterday. Britain’s Earl-Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, banned hot pants from the Royal Enclosure. In spite of the edict, several girls dared to wear them, and even a man showed up in a pair—in green velvet. He was turned away at the main gate.
Among other outfits was a long, chiffon maxi-skirt worn with a brassiere top showing a bare midriff. A 23-year-old Londoner, Barbara Allen, attracted photographers with her panama straw hat topped by a model of a pre-war tricycle ice-cream cart. One man wore a salmon pink top hat with a matching frock coat
