High boots squelched through the mud, widebrimmed hats fluttered in the chill wind, and trouser suits ousted hot pants in the fashion stakes at Ascot yesterday. Britain’s Earl-Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, banned hot pants from the Royal Enclosure. In spite of the edict, several girls dared to wear them, and even a man showed up in a pair—in green velvet. He was turned away at the main gate.
