WO REWARD’ FOR OFFICE

(N.Z. Press Association)

ROTORUA, June 17.

County councils have received very poor treatment from the Government in the awarding of honours, the president of the New Zealand Counties Association (Mr W. Baird) said today.

“If you want to get an award, don’t join a county council,” Mr Baird told delegates to the association’s annual conference in Rotorua.

“Two members were awarded the M.B.E. during the year, but we see in the honours list that a golfer gets an 0.8. E.,” he said.
