St Andrew’s wins
St Andrew’s College emerged as a very strong challenger for this season’s secondary schools’- Rugby competition this year when it swept aside an average Christ’s College XV, 16-0, at St Andrew’s yesterday. St Andrew’s led only 3-0 at half-time but added three more tries against stouter Christ’s College defence in the second half.
P. D. Johnston scored two tries and the captain, M. H. Lemon, one, and the fullback, R. G. Wilson, scored a try and kicked two conversions. P. J. Smith gave his backline good service, P. E. McEwan helped the ball along, and S. C. M. Cartwright was a most able temporary substitute during which time he made the break of the match for Wilson to score. St Andrew’s also had a more competent pack, with M. H. Nutt and the hooker, S. B. Heinemann, prominent. C. P. E. Clark and W. A. Nurse were prominent in the Christ’s College backs, as was P. A. Hewson in the backs.
