PRICE SCHEME EXTENDED

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, June 16.

The price justification scheme would continue as long as the Stabilisation of Remuneration Act was in force, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton) today.

The terminal date of the Stabilisation of Remuneration Act was June 30, -1972, he said, but should economic stability permit its repeal before then, a simultaneous end to the price justication scheme would be considered. Mr Shelton said that just before the end of the price freeze, public statements had

been made indicating that the Government intended the price justification scheme would be in force until June 30, 1971. It was said, however, that early in that month the scheme would be reviewed. The Minister added that the enforcement of the Stabilisation of Remuneration Act would have an effect on the duration of the price justification scheme.

The Government saw these two measures both of which were making a useful contribution to economic stability as being complementary, he said.
