Labour backs welfare report
(N.Z. Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, June 16. The Labour Party today gave strong support to the report on social welfare in New Zealand, issued yesterday ,by the Association of Social Workers. The. party’s skopesman on social welfare, Mr N. J. King, said, the report “highlights the necessity for something to be done positively about social welfare in New Zealand.” Mr King said he agreed completely with the association that the Government’s intention to amalgamate the Social Security Deparment and the Child Welfare Division was Inadequate for present and future needs, and that it implied further piecemeal development.
