t A frost of 9deg. recorded I at Christchurch Airport yes- : terday morning ended the t mildest period of winter for ■ 17 years; the weather office at the airport had not re- ' corded a first heavy frost so - late in the year since 1954. The 9deg. frost reading at the airport—equivalent to minus sdeg Celsius—was the hardest and only the second since winter began officially on June I. A frost of Bdeg was recorded at the Botanic Gardens yesterday. Last June, the heaviest frost of the month was one of B.sdeg On June 11. Rangiora recorded 9.Bdeg of frost. Last year there were 17 frosts in June, the heaviest being lO.ldeg on June 10. A frost of 7deg was recorded at the Ashburton Domain.
