Rises and falls mostly in balance in Australia
Rises and falls were in balance in all sections on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. If anything, stocks were fractionally firmer, although moves were closely mixed and marginal,
Poseidon did well and reached 3000 c, but closed 250 c higher at 2950 c. The Bougainville rights dropped 14c to 198 c, C.R.A. firmed 4c to 896 c, and New B.H. shed 40c to 1200 c. Gt Boulder dropped 5c to 220 c but Metals Ex rose 5c to 500 c. Kathleen Investments was 16c lower at 754 c, and Queensland Mines dropped 50c to 1800 c.
Hamerstey gained 5c to 418 c, and W.M.C. firmed 7c to 383 c. Utah rose 8c to 420 c. Peko eased 6c to 970 c.
Speculatives were mixed with small moves. Spargos was strong with a 15c gain to 185 c, but Whim Creek dropped 10c tb 420 c.
Metramar and Norseman added 10c each, while Nth
Kagurli eased. 10c to 120 c. B.H. Sth, and Southland fell back marginally. Oils were firm. Woodside peaked at 78c but profit taking forced it to close 4c lower at 70c. Bridge Oil, Ampol Ex, and Magellan were firmer while Beaver, and Clarence dropped half a cent each. Among the industrials 8.H.P., Austim, Comalco, and Acquila dropped 5c each.
Swan Brewery firmed 7c to 225 c as on Friday, a large number of the shares changed hands in special sales.
