Rises and falls mostly in balance in Australia

Rises and falls were in balance in all sections on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. If anything, stocks were fractionally firmer, although moves were closely mixed and marginal,

Speculatives were mixed with small moves. Spargos was strong with a 15c gain to 185 c, but Whim Creek dropped 10c tb 420 c.

Metramar and Norseman added 10c each, while Nth

Kagurli eased. 10c to 120 c. B.H. Sth, and Southland fell back marginally. Oils were firm. Woodside peaked at 78c but profit taking forced it to close 4c lower at 70c. Bridge Oil, Ampol Ex, and Magellan were firmer while Beaver, and Clarence dropped half a cent each. Among the industrials 8.H.P., Austim, Comalco, and Acquila dropped 5c each.
