HEADMASTER TO RETIRE
Mr W. J. A. Brittenden, the headmaster of Aranui High School, is to retire next year and his resignation was received by the school’s board of governors at their meeting yesterday.
Mr Brittenden, a keen historian, intends to write a. number of books on early] Christchurch, see more of] New Zealand and eventually travel overseas. An M.A. graduate from Canterbury University, Mr Brittenden joined the Christchurch Boys’ High School | staff in 1943 after teaching in Christchurch and Canter-1 bury primary schools and per- j forming a period of home ser-1 vice in the Army. I He was first assistant at] Cashmere High School from] 1956 to 1959; in 1960 he became headmaster of Aranui] High School. | He is a former chairman of] the Canterbury branch of the | New Zealand Geographic So- ] ciety and past president of] the Historical Association of] Canterbury. He has been] prominent in the administra-l tion of the Canterbury Boys' Cricket Association,
