‘Ask and it shall be given’
(Staff Reporter) FRANZ JOSEF, May 20. An on-the-spot grant of $lO,OOO was made by the National Roads Board to the Ross Borough Council when the board paid an official visit to Ross today. One of New Zealand’s smallest boroughs with a population of 429, and a rate revenue of $6400, the council recently decided voluntarily to amalgamate with Westland County and this is waiting approval by the Local Government
The Mayor of Ross (Mr S. Scott) told the board that the council did not have enough money to form and seal footpaths and felt it would be appropriate for the board to make a grant to enable the work to be done.
“How about $lO,OOO this year?” asked the board’s chairman, the Minister of Works (Mr Allen). He sought and got confirmation from board members and Mr Scott smiled broadly.
