(N.Z. Pre** Assn.—Copyright) CANBERRA. New Zealand’s prospects of winning the Australian universities chess championship have improved with an upset win by Adelaide over Monash. The New Zealand team has now scored 15} points, with two games unfinished. Monash, favoured to win, has scored 11} points with , three games unfinished, but has still to play a further round. New Zealand has played all its rounds.
