RACING DASHING SPRINT BY HAY BURNER

Hay Burner heightened Interest in his forthcoming campaign, starting at Rlccarton next week, with a dashing sprint on his home track yesterday. Ridden by his partowner, J. Cowan, Hay Burner sped over half a mile on the trial grass in SOsec. This time was not bettered In yesterday’s training on a track which offered flemish footing after a light frost. Hay Burner win ran against the sprinters at the Canterbury Joekey Club’s meeting. He is likely to make Us mark at middle distances but one of his runs fresh up last season produced a third over seven furI longs at the Ashburton winter ‘ meeting. . The promising three-year-old. Christmas Box <B. Lee), and {Eskay (Tucker) hurried over half {a mile in 30 4-ssec. Christmas Box appears to have ability to match his Impressive physique and might be a big winner for G. L. Lee’s stable. Lord Nelson (Jackson) and Seibay (Beck) were paired for half a mile, run in 51 3-3 sec. Lord Nelson looked promising In the n, and his run fresh up ccarton next week will attract interest. Gyrate <R. McCann) and Jigger (Stewart) shaped well for maidens to record 50 4-ssec for half a mile Gyrate has looked as If he wll be usefull over a bit of ground Gracious Dream (H. from racing for almost a year J. R. Shaw did not demand anything of this useful sprinter while the tracks were hard in the autumn. Funny Way (G. Lee) and Maxwelton (M. McCann) recorded S 3 1-Ssec for half a mile. Funny Way Is a form runner for the Amberley Cup, but a wide barrier position will make early demands on him.

Anne Lindsay (Low) ran half a mile In 52 3-ssec. Donnybrook Fair (Felling) follbwed In 31 3-5 sec, Blmersn (Jackson) and Dantic (J. Phillips) took 53sec, Siren (Andrews) and Lady Attack (Lewin) 53«ec, and Tussle and Solved 51 l-ssec. Bannock (Miss Kerr) ran home from the mile In Imln 44 3-Ssec, the opening halt In 31*ec.

Time and Tide (Gullery) took Imln 52sec for his mile, quickening for the last half in S 3 2-Ssec. Beau Leigh ran his mile in Imln 52 1-Ssec, the final three furlongs In 3* 2-ssec. Running Scared (Lewin) outjumped Sleeky Fox (H. Reuben) iat the last flight to take a short lead finishing a round of four hurdles.
