Letters on television topics are subject to the rules applying to general correspondence. AMERICAN T.V. Margaret Pierce should take a long look at some of the tripe from English T.V. before making light and harmless American features the subject of cheap sarcasm. Who worries if they do convey an overglamorous impression of the
American scene? They pass a pleasant enough hour to most viewers. If the average English T.V. feature of the same type purports to truly represent life in the tight little isle (and remember—the average English T.V. feature is generally acclaimed by the critics for its honesty and realism) one might be pardoned for getting the impression that its inhabitants are largely com-
prised of yakkity-yakking morons, bar proppers-up, imbecilic housewives and retailers of doubtful humour. One or two suggestions—for your contributor to add to her list of matchmaking proposals: how about. Wendy Comer and “Father, Dear Father” being joined in holy : wedlock, or Alf Garnett I doing a line with Mrs Strident Ogden from the “Street.”—G. W. Hockle".
