Retirement of Bayley

(N.Z. Press Associatiunf .NEW PLYMOUTH. B. Bayley, the captain of the Taranaki representative cricket team, on Monday announced his, retirement from representative: play. “The time is opportune for younger people to get in and take my place in the team,” said the 38-year-old cricket veteran. His retirement means he will not be leading Taranaki in its Hawke Cup defence matches next season.

Bayley will still play club cricket for Marist. “1 will plat some club matches,” he said, “but not any representative games.’* He has been playing cricket for 22 years and playing minor association cricket since 1949. He represented Canterbury in 1958, and moved to Waikato. He played for the province for four seasons, captaining the team for two until leaving in 1966. He also represented Northern Districts from 1960 to 1986. Shifting to New Plymouth In 1968, Bayley played for the Marist club and represented Taranaki for one season.
