FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone east of New Zealand continues to move slowly away; a depression in the north Tasman Sea is moving south-east and its associated frontal zone is expected to move on to Northland this morning and spread gradually over the rest of the country during the next 24 to 36 hours; a belt of cloud and rain accompanies this front Forecast: Canterbury.—Cloud and some brief rain on the plains at first, but tending to clear later in the day; mild; moderate north or northeast winds predominating. Marlborough.—Moderate to fresh northerlies; cloudy and mild; light rain in the north later in the day.
Nelson.—Moderate northerlies; overcast rain at first, heavy for a time but tending to clear later in the day; mild. Buller and Westland.—Moderate northerlies; rain in most parts at first, heavy at times, conditions tending to clear in the afternoon ; mild.
Outlook: showery over and west of the ranges; mainly fair in the east. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
