Board declines request
The occupation group for intellectually handicapped children in Ashburton would not be reopened at present, the Canterbury Education Board decided on Wednesday.
The board had been asked by the Ashburton branch of the Intellectually Handicapped Children's Society to reopen the group. After the request had been referred to the District Senior Inspector of Primary Schools (Mr B. J. Wilson) ft was decided that although the minimum roll number of five could be available immediately this minima] figure could not be maintained for very long. The board agreed to keep the request under review.
