Rider injured; horse killed
"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN.
A horse was killed and his rider Injured in a schooling accident at Wingatui on Wednesday. Martian Command, ridden by M. McKewen, set out to school over a round of hurdles, but he crashed into the first fence, broke his neck, and died instantly. McKewen was attended by a doctor and sent to 'hospital with a broken collar bone.
It was unfortunate for McKewen, who Is attached to M. Houlistan’s stable. He has just received a renewal of bis apprentice licence and had a full book of riding engagements for the Wairio Jockey Club’s meeting at Riverton today.
