Men attempted to defeat justice
James William Lewis, aged 29, a factory hand, and Ronald Cyril De La Mare, aged 45, a cleaner were found guilty by a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday on a charge of attempting to defeat the course of justice. They were remanded by Mr Justice Wilson to April 30 for sentence, De La Mare being granted bail. Mr G. K. Panckhurst appeared for the Crown. Mr L. G. Holder defended
Lewis and Mr K. N. Hamption, De La Mare.
Evidence was given mat after a collision between a car and a truck in Ferry Road, it was alleged by both accused that De La Mare had been driving the car. After De La Mare had been charged with careless driving, he claimed that , he was not the driver with the result that the charge had been dismissed.
Lewis was a disqualified driver.
