INSTRUMENT LANDING
Installation at Wellington. CN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 23. The Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Transport will soon start on the installation of an instrument approach system at Wellington Airport. The acting engineer in charge of navigational aids for the division (Mr H. R. Noble) said today that tests for the siting of the equipment had been completed, and plans for the permanent installation were going ahead.
The system worked through one antenna, which threw a beam forward and backwards to assist aircraft landing from either end of the airport. Once the system was operating, aircraft would be able to approach the airport through cloud, which previously would have forced a diversion.
