Disinfectants, tuna cheaper; aspirin up
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 23. Super Pine, Super Citrus
and Super Lavender disinfectants have been reduced in price from $2.12 a half-gallon to $1.75. The managing director of the firm which markets the disinfectants (Mr N. W. Stevens) said that the reduction was because of a miscalculation in the original price rise, introduced on April 1, from $1.56 to $2.12. Prices have also been reduced on Watties 7oz cans of tuna fish, which have dropped 4c in price. A spokesman for Wattie’s said today that the wholesale price has been reduced 38c a dozen.
According ■to the spokesman, the reason for the drop in price is the improved availability of fish, better production and improved efficiency in methods.
Two lines of grape juice have risen in price. They are Sanitarium grape juice, which has risen 5c for a 260 z bottle, from 56c to 61c, and a sparkling grape juice marketed by the same firm, which has risen from 93c to $l. The accountant of the firm said that the rises were passed on by growers. Sanitarium acted only as an agency for the product, and the prices quoted were only those recommended. It was understood that the price of bottles had increased. Headaches will cost more, too. Aspro has risen in price by 3c for 25 tablets, 8c for 100, and 5c for 24 (soluble). The secretary of the manufacturing firm, Nicholas Products, Ltd, said that this was the first increase in price since January, 1964, and was caused by the increased costs of ingredients, packaging and labour.
