Prisoner escapes
A big party of Ashburton police and Ministry of Transport traffic officers, assisted by police dogs from Christchurch, was last night searching for a prisoner who escaped from a constable at the Ashburton railway station yesterday about 6 p.m. The man, Keith Owen Hinds, aged 19, was being taken by bus from Dunedin to Christchurch, and made his escape when the bus Stopped at the station. Roadblocks were immediately set up on State highway I, all vehicles being stopped and drivers warned to be on the lookout for Hinds. Hinds, when he escaped, was wearing a grey jersey, blue denim jeans, and black gym boots. He is sft 6in tall, of thin build, and is roughcomplexioned. The police do not regard Hinds as dangerous, but anyone seeing him is warned not to approach, but call the police.
