MIRAGE PLANS
Engineer’s trial ends
(N.Z.P.A-Reuter—Copyright) LAUSANNE, April 22. The five judges of the Swiss Federal Tribunal have retired to consider their verdict in the Mirage blueprints secrets case.
A Swiss aero-engineer Alfred Frauenknecht, aged 44, has admitted selling to Israeli agents some 200,000 secret documents enabling Israel to manufacture engines for Mirage jets. He received 85,000 Swiss Francs (about $18,000) for the documents, which weighed more than two tons and were packed in 20 big cases. He is charged with treasonable activties and violation of economic and military secrets. The maximum sentence under Swiss law is 20 years hard labour, but yesterday the prosecution asked for a seven-year term. Frauenknecht’s cousin, Josef, a 38-year-old chauffeur, is charged with complicity.
