Anzac Day wreath
Sir, —If the students put a wreath on the War Memorial it should be in memory of those who have lost their lives in fighting for our country and for no other reason. —Yours, etc., REMEMBER THEM. April 21, 1971.
Sir,—Some years back, Dad was involved in an accident (I say “involved”—it was none of his doing). It was his anniversary the other day. We went up to the cemetery. While we were standing about, rather subdued and reflective-like, an acquaintance sidled up and put a card among our flowers. “Stop Road Accidents,” it said. That jarred us a bit. We go along with that all the way, of course. But somehow just then didn’t seem the time. We reckon he meant well, but we wished he hadn’t done it. He should have seen us about it beforehand. We figure that if he’d done that he’d have seen our point of view and wouldn’t have gone ahead. After all, it was our Dad.— Yours, etc., SADDENED. April 22, 1971.
[As many as practicable of the remaining letters on this subject received up to last evening will be printed tomorrow. Otherwise this correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”]
