Space is completely taken for the big carshows which will be held throughout New Zealand late this year, the Australian promoters report.

The major shows will be held at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and week-end shows of special exhibits only will be held at Invercargill, Dunedin and Hamilton. The shows will include displays by the main motor companies and accessory firms, and the leading distributors of specialised imported cars will also be represented. There will be large motor sport exhibits, and special exhibits will include the Lamborghini Marzal prototype and the Ferrari P 6 prototype, the Le Mans Renault Alpine, the Sigma safety car, and a United States champion-ship-winning Dodge Daytona.

The Invercargill show will be from September 3 to 4, Dunedin from September 10 to 11, Christchurch from September 18 to 25, Wellington from October 2 to 10, Hamilton, October 15 and 16, and Auckland from October 22 to 30. The Christchurch show will be at Canterbury Court. The director of the show is Mr J. Abbott, of Abbott Exhibitions, Melbourne. Mr Abbott is a 38-year-old Englishman who has been involved in motor sport since

1953, was publisher of the Australian “Auto Sports” magazine for 10 years, and who now spends foui months of each year visiting overseas motor shows and motor manufacturers.

Award made Sir Alec Issigonnis, the designer of the Mini, has been awarded the Guild of Motoring Writers’ special trophy for 1971. Last year the trophy was presented for the first time, and it went to Felix Wankel, the designer of the rotary engine which bears his name.

Record set In the first 12 months of production, Chrysler U.K. sold 100,000 Hillman Avengers, thus setting a new one-year sales record for the group. The most popular model is the 1500 c.c. car, which comprised 56 per cent of sales.
