Letters on television topics are subject to the rules applying to general correspondence. FILMS AND PLAYS I agree with “Play Lover” about the late showing of films and plays. Many older people cannot sit too long; I am one of them. Some people complained some time ago about this but no notice was taken. Some programmes are not of general interest and should be put on later. ANOTHER PLAY LOVER. JOHN LAURIE In my copy of the “Old Vic Saga” written by Harcourt Williams I ran across the following reference to John Laurie, who we have seen on our television as the elderly Scot in "Dad’s Army”: “John Laurie was the leading man in Andrew Leigh’s (productions) last season I saw him as Macbeth and Hamlet in 1925. Both were first-rate performances. His incisive diction, his Scottish vigour and his warm personality are now known to all of us.” John Laurie appeared regularly at the “Vic” from 1921 to 1925 and again from 1927 to 1929. —T. W. COOK.

“INHERITANCE” The excellent acting and general authenticity of “Inheritance” must surely be close to the standard of “The Forsyte Saga” and it is quite impossible to understand why this is programmed on Friday afternoons. This serial should have been given peak viewing instead of the everlasting Dr Finlay or the mediocre and monotonous drivel offered on most evenings. A repeat of this firstclass story should be given evening viewing time, when a majority of viewers are able to watch CHANGE THE RECORD (Geraldine).
