LEARNING
In Britain, the usually sedate debate about the way children are educated has turned into a market-place slanging match. The Minister of Education warned teachers of an “educational backlash.” Some of his opponents published a pamphlet “Fight for Education” and yet others proclaim that mass education means mediocrity. Many people are simply bewildered and most parents, recalling their childhood, would not recognise, the new kinds of schooling.
What are children learning at primary school these days—if they are learning? “Towards Tomorrow” 8.8. C. documentary, “Learning to Live,” goes to the heart of the matter which is about how children learn, and how parents and teachers are helping them in British primary schools. It is solely concerned with state primary schools, because this is where the real education revolution is happening. “Learning to Live” screens from CHTV3 on Monday evening.
