Walsh, the newly-appointed commander of the 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade base in Singapore, being challenged by Private T. U. P. Rangitoheriri, of Christchurch, during his first visit to the Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, one of the units under his command. Accompanied by the battalion’s commander, Lieutenant-Colonel R. G. Williams, of Christchurch, Brigadier Walsh inspected a quarterguard and was shown a selection of equipment used by New Zealand soldiers in South Vietnam.
