Ram by air to U.S.
This Souhdown ram, which will be two years old in August, left New Zealand by air this week on its way to Portland, Oregon.
It is from one of New Zealand’s leading Southdown studs —the Punchbowl stud of Mr H. J. Andrew, at Maheno, in Otago; and has been sold to Dr L. B. Huff, an American Southdown breeder, for a four-figure price. It is the fourth of Mr Andrew’s rams to go to Dr Huff, who purchased one in 1968 and two in 1969. The ram will remain in quarantine in Honolulu for 30 days before being flown on to Portland.
The sale and transport of the ram was arranged through Wright Stephenson and Company, Ltd. A representative of the firm said that the cost of sending the animal by air would be about s6oo—similar to that of a human passenger. In the photograph the ram is shown at Harewood with Mr B. B. Black, representing the owner, before it set out on its air travels.
