Meads injured
(N.Z. Prese Association) AUCKLAND. C. E. Meads ignored medical advice to remain in London for at least three days after the Overseas XV had played England last Saturday.
He acknowledged on his return yesterday that he had been considerably troubled by an injury at the base of the spine which he sustained in a scrum.
He was treated by the former All Black, Dr H. Burry, who is now specialising in orthopaedics in London. Dr Burry diagnosed a misplacement, rather than a displacement, of a disc, and told
Meads that muscular spasms from the'injury might put him out of Rugby for at least three weeks, and very likely four.
He wanted Meads to remain in London for immediate treatment.
Meads said yesterday that he thought the injury, which was similar to one suffered years ago, would prevent him playing this week-end, and possibly also on the following Saturday. “But she’ll soon be right,” he said. “If we had had another lock, I’d have stayed off the field.
“But they pumped a good bit of stuff into me and when I went back, B. J. Lochore, (the captain), simply told me to push in the scrums and let it go at that."
