Strike at works
(By our industrial reporter)
About 500 workers at the Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd, Belfast freezing works have been on strike since last Monday morning and will not return to work before the coming Monday at the earliest
The dispute arose on the. pig-killing chain. According to the management the dispute involves the breach of two agreements—one on the hours of killing, • which was negotiated locally on March 31; and the other on the national agreement not to walk out and leave stock in the yards unkilled. The three Christchurch full-time freezing union leaders have all been out of town for the last two days. They are known to view the matter seriously, and will be looking into the dispute today.
