Would sell privately
Woolbrokers will go into private selling of wool for clients if enough fanners want it. Mr N. O. Thomas, general manager of the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association, told the wool marketing forum at Ashburton last week that brokers had been selling and handling wool on behalf of their farmer clients for more than 100 years and for many years
they had supported the auction system because they considered it to be efficient and in the best over-all interests of their clients. “But the woolbrokers’ function is to offer a selling service and if sufficient of our farmer clients want to sell privately then the brokers have the staff and the facilities and finance to provide a competitive service with wool merchants.”
