Ploughed back
Borthwicks in New Zealand has not paid a dividend to its parent company in the United Kingdom for 36 years, the New Zealand manager for Borthwicks, Mr P. T. Norman, told the meat marketing forum in Ashburton last week.
The money had been returned to the enterprise here. Mr C. F. Jones, a former member of the Meat Board, said that a little more than half of the killing capacity of freezing works in New Zealand was owned by overseas companies, who, however, had very rarely paid dividends to their overseas parent companies ana who had brought a great deal of money into New Zealand.
