A proposed grant of $2137 to the Public Library reference section was referred back to the finance committee at last night’s meeting of the Heathcote County Council.
Cr R. H. T. Thompson said the money should be held up until the City Council agreed to establish a truly metropolitan library, run by metroplitan control.
It was agreed to place grants as follows on the estimates: Canterbury Progress League $330, Christchurch Civic Orchestra $564, Civic Music Council $75 and Arts Festival $56. It was agreed to favourably consider a grant of $9OO to the Ferrymead Trust.
