F.O.L. leader on prices
(N.Z Press Association)
AUCKLAND, April 18. “It looks as though 1971 price increases will be as big as last year’s 10 per cent,” the president of the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner) said today. He was commenting on a report that the Consumer Price Index indicated a 2.5 per cent increase in. prices in the first three months of this year.
“It indicates how inactive the Government has been on prices, and that what steps it has taken have not been effective,” he said. “It shows the Government has not got to the core of the problem. Under these circumstances, the Government cannot expect to hold wages to a mandatory level.”
