Great day for stud
“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. An achievement, almost certainly without precedent, was credited to Sir Woolf Fisher and his Ra Ora Stud last Saturday with the wins of Sheralee at Ellerslie and Andross and Waikiki in Sydney.
All three horses were bred at Ra Ora, Sheralee by Sir Woolf Fisher and Sir William Stevenson in partnership and the other two by Sir Woolf on his own account.
Sheralee ended her two-year-old season the top stake winner of her age with her success in the Ellerslie Championship Stakes. She is by Sovereign Edition, which Sir Woolf Fisher imported in 1966. Andros and Waikiki, which took the A.J.C. Champagne Stakes and A.J.C. Oaks respectively, are also by Sovereign Edition, Andros from Meanda (by Gabador) and Waikiki from Blue Breeze (by Gabador).
Andros and Waikiki were both bought at the Trentham yearling sales for their Australian owners, Andros by a Melbourne ! trainer, G. Murphy, for $14,000,* and Waikiki by T. J. Smith, of Sydney, for $5500.
