Long service on school body
(N.Z Press Association) ROTORUA, April 19. One of New Zealand’s oldest school committee members Mrs Cissie Williams, aged 81, has retired from Whangamarino school committee after 32 successive years. Mrs Williams came to New Zealand as a World War 1 “war-bride” in 1919, and has lived next to the school since 1936. Her late husband, Thomas Williams, served with the Maori Battalion in France. When she first went to the Rotoiti district, few of her husband's people spoke English, and she had to “learn Maori pretty quickly.” She i now spreaks fluent Maori i but has almost forgotten her Welsh.
